Country Legends Backup Singer Auditions

The Maryland Symphony Orchestra is pleased to announce auditions for backup vocalists for its "Country Legends" performance on Saturday, October 15 2016. The winners will get the opportunity to perform backup vocals for country singers Rachel Potter (The X Factor) and Patrick Thomas (The Voice) as well alongside the Maryland Symphony Orchestra in a full performance. Please see the entry conditions and application form below.

Entry Conditions

  • All entrants must be 18 years of age or older
  • Although is strongly preferred that entrants have formal vocal training at the college level, it is not required.
  • Three winners will be selected, 2 female (soprano and alto) and 1 male (low tenor/high baritone)
  • Musical selections for the concert will be up to 13 popular country songs, including “Jolene”, “On the Road Again”, “Coal Miner’s Daughter”, “Thank God I’m a Country Boy”, “Achy Breaky Heart”, and “9 to 5”
  • All applicants must send in an audition video with piano or guitar accompaniment in the form of an mp4, Youtube (or similar web accessed) link, or a DVD
  • All applicants must also provide a resume with education and singing experience, including any professional opportunities or awards.
  • Audition video/DVD, application, and resume due by 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 23rd 2016 to the Maryland Symphony Orchestra office:

  • Selection(s) should be no longer than 3 minutes in total and of the country genre similar to the songs listed above. Applicants can also sing a Broadway song for variety.
  • Winners will be selected by a panel of judges that will view all of the submissions
  • Winners will be notified on Monday, August 29th 2016  
  • There will be no financial compensation for this performance opportunity. All finalists will receive two complimentary tickets to the concert.
  • Overnight accommodation will be provided, if necessary.
