Symphony Summer: 12 Weeks of Musical Mastery #4
Welcome back! If you were one of this year’s concert attendees, Maestro Schulze has picked a composer that you should be familiar with! After listening to the MSO play the Tchaikovsky’s beautiful Symphony No. 5 last October, come explore another of his masterpieces with us!

Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky – Symphony No. 4
Tchaikovsky penned many letters to his patron, Nadezhda von Meck, about this 4-movement symphony and its meaning, giving us unique insight into the piece. With a strong repeating fanfare and a powerful final movement that incorporates the Russian folk song “A little birch tree stood in the field” this piece is a unique musical experience backdropped by Tchaikovsky’s contemplative exploration of fate.

Brooke is continuing to spread her love of music to students after teaching music in both Washington and Berkley County Schools and fifteen years as a faculty member at Shepherd University teaching voice, music literature, pedagogy, and music theory. We're thrilled to have someone with such a passion for music education join us to guide our many growing education programs forward!

Glad you made it! This week Maestro Elizabeth Schulze has selected a piece that is probably new to many of you.

Anton Webern – Six Pieces for Orchestra, Op. 6
An important milestone in orchestral music, this piece highlights the uniqueness of 20th century modernism in music. This piece may not be considered the most accessible to today's listeners but with the fantastic explanations of Maestro Rattle from the BRSO in the video below we invite you to take the opportunity to learn a bit more about the many sides of orchestral music.
