The Maryland Symphony Orchestra (MSO) is inviting the community to experience live music in a new way with the launch of MSO Lite, a concert series centered around familiar music, intimate spaces, and shared musical experiences.
The series opens Sunday, August 2 with The Music of Michael Jackson at Hub City Vinyl in downtown Hagerstown.
Performed by string quartet comprised of MSO musicians, the evening will reimagine some of Michael Jackson’s most recognizable music through live instrumental performance in a space designed to feel relaxed, social, and immersive.
“MSO Lite grew out of conversations about how music already lives in people’s memories, celebrations, friendships, and everyday lives,” Kim Bowen, Executive Director of the Maryland Symphony Orchestra, said. “We wanted to create something that feels welcoming and connected to the community while still centered around artistry and live performance.”
The launch of MSO Lite reflects the orchestra’s ongoing commitment to creating musical experiences that extend beyond the traditional concert hall while continuing to serve the community through performance, connection, and accessibility.
Future MSO Lite performances will continue exploring iconic artists and recognizable music through small ensemble performances in unique community spaces throughout the region.
For the inaugural performance, audiences can expect an evening shaped as much by atmosphere and shared experience as by the music itself.
“There is nothing like live music and it’s even more special having a shared experience of music you love in an intimate setting,” Bowen said. “People experience it together differently. It becomes personal. We hope audiences come curious, bring friends, stay awhile, and simply enjoy being part of something memorable together.”
