Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky | Overture to Hamlet
William Walton | Suite from Henry V
Felix Mendelssohn | Overture to A Midsummer Night’s Dream
Sergei Prokofiev | Suite from Romeo and Juliet
Shakespeare in Symphony explores the enduring power of Shakespeare’s stories through music inspired by some of his most memorable plays. At the heart of the program is Prokofiev’s Romeo and Juliet, celebrated for its sweeping melodies and dramatic intensity.
Mendelssohn’s beloved Overture to A Midsummer Night’s Dream captures the wit, mystery, and lightness of Shakespeare’s magical comedy. Walton’s music from Henry V reflects the pageantry and spirit of the English court, while Tchaikovsky’s Hamlet Overture reveals the darker psychological drama of the tragedy.
Together these works bring Shakespeare’s characters, emotions, and stories vividly to life through the color and energy of the orchestra.
