The Maryland Symphony Orchestra invites the community to celebrate a major milestone as the Maryland Symphony Youth Orchestra (MSYO) concludes its inaugural season with a public Spring Concert on Wednesday, June 10 at 7:00 PM at the HCC Kepler Theatre.
The concert marks the culmination of the ensemble’s first year, bringing together talented young musicians from across the region for advanced orchestral training and performance opportunities under the guidance of professional musicians and educators.
The program will feature music by Beethoven, John Williams, Andrew Lloyd Webber, and more, showcasing the remarkable growth and accomplishments of the orchestra’s student musicians throughout the season.
“This concert is a celebration of everything these students have accomplished together in just one year,” Dr. Britney Alcine, conductor of the Maryland Symphony Youth Orchestra, said. “They have worked incredibly hard, supported one another, and grown not only as musicians, but as an ensemble. It has been inspiring to watch their confidence and artistry develop throughout this inaugural season.”
A multi-faceted conductor and educator, Dr. Alcine serves as Director of Music and Arts and Assistant Professor at Delaware Valley University and has worked with youth and regional orchestras throughout the Northeast. Her conducting experience includes appointments with the Hartt Orchestra, Greater Connecticut Youth Orchestras, New London Barn Playhouse, and numerous regional festival orchestras. In 2024, she was named a finalist for the Assistant Conductor scheme with the Chineke! Orchestra in London and served as a conducting fellow at the Lake George Music Festival.
“This orchestra has been a dream for many years,” Maryland Symphony Orchestra Executive Director Kim Bowen, said. “Seeing it come to life through the hard work of our staff, educators, musicians, families, and students has been incredibly meaningful. We are especially grateful to Dr. Britney Alcine for the energy, artistry, and leadership she has brought to this program from the very beginning. She has helped create something truly special.”
The MSYO was created to provide high-level orchestral experiences for student musicians in the region while strengthening the pipeline for music education and arts engagement throughout the community.
The community is encouraged to attend and support these outstanding young musicians as they celebrate the close of a landmark first season.
