SUMMARY:Maryland Symphony Orchestra in Garrett County
DESCRIPTION:We are excited to be performing on Saturday\, June 14th\, at 7:30 PM as part of the Stage West Arts Collective’s 2025 Season. This performance will be held at the Garrett College Performing Arts Center. Tickets can be purchased directly through Stage West. \n\n\n*************** \n\n\nFrom the presenter: \n\n\nThe Maryland Symphony Orchestra\, known for its rich sound and precision\, consistently delivers a high level of musicianship. The performances feature a balance of classical masterpieces and contemporary works\, with each section of the orchestra—strings\, brass\, woodwinds\, and percussion—showcasing their individual talents while contributing to a unified and cohesive whole. \n\n\nA performance by the MSO is a dynamic display of musical virtuosity and emotional depth. Under the expert baton of Elizabeth Schulze\, the orchestra brings to life a program that ranges from the sweeping drama of Beethoven’s Symphony No. 5 to the intricate beauty of new American works. \n\nThe evening is further heightened by the exceptional soloists whose performance will captivate the audience with both technical brilliance and expressive artistry. The Orchestra’s ability to seamlessly blend precision with passion leaves the audience spellbound\, and the vibrant energy of the orchestra is mirrored by the enthusiastic response from the crowd. MSO’s influence and reputation has reached far beyond Western Maryland. It is one of only four professional symphony orchestras in Maryland and audience members from South Central Pennsylvania\, West Virginia’s Eastern Panhandle\, the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia and the Baltimore-Washington Metropolitan area are drawn to concerts held at the historic Maryland Theatre in downtown Hagerstown.

SUMMARY:Voices of the Past: Dvořák\, Perkinson\, Ballard & Haydn
DESCRIPTION:THE MARYLAND THEATRE  \nSaturday\, February 14\, 2026 | 7:30 PM Sunday\, February 15\, 2026 | 3:00 PM  \nElizabeth Schulze Conductor  \nAntonín Dvořák | Wind Serenade\, op. 44\, in D MinorColeridge-Taylor Perkinson | Sinfonietta No. 1Louis W. Ballard | Incident at Wounded KneeJoseph Haydn | Symphony No. 64 in A Major (“Tempora Mutantur”) \nThis program brings together four composers whose music reflects a continual dialogue between tradition and the present moment. Though separated by centuries and circumstances\, Haydn\, Dvořák\, Perkinson\, and Ballard each engage with the musical language they inherited\, reshaping it to express personal experience\, cultural identity\, and the world around them. Familiar forms become points of departure rather than destinations\, opening space for reflection\, reinvention\, and new perspective.\n \nDvořák’s Wind Serenade sets the tone with warmth and clarity\, grounded in classical form yet colored by the sounds of everyday life in his time. Perkinson’s early Sinfonietta looks back to Baroque models through the lens of mid-century America\, blending jazz-inflected rhythm and lyricism with confident craftsmanship. Ballard’s Incident at Wounded Knee uses the structure of Western classical music to convey a deeply personal and cultural history\, guiding listeners into a sound world shaped by ritual\, memory\, and resilience. Haydn’s Symphony No. 64 closes the program with wit and invention\, reminding us that change and curiosity have always been central to the art form.\n \nTogether\, these works invite listeners into an evolving conversation about time\, tradition\, and the many ways music gives voice to human experience.\n \nLearn more about the groundbreaking work for Louis W.
