Volunteer/Internships
Volunteer Opportunites
If you are happiest working “behind the scenes,” why not consider joining the MSO family of volunteers? From assisting in the music library, preparing mailings, answering phones and helping in the office, to providing snacks and coffee for musicians at rehearsals and concerts, transporting guest artists and assisting with special events, volunteers ensure that the MSO runs smoothly.
If you’d like to play an important role in the daily life of the MSO contact our Office Manager Judy Ditto by calling 301-797-4000 or emailing her at jditto@marylandsymphony.org.
Internships
The MSO provides non-paid internships to college students seeking a working knowledge of a non-profit orchestra, including Operations, Marketing, Development, Library, and General Administration. An MSO internship greatly expands a student’s concept of the business model and applies it in a real-world setting. Interns work with individual staff members, becoming familiar with the various areas of responsibility and applying this knowledge in the daily operations of the orchestra.
Students must be currently enrolled in a recognized college with a major in Music or Business Administration and a 3.0 GPA in their major field. Interns must have access to reliable transportation, possess excellent oral and written communication skills, be able to lift 30 lbs. and be available for occasional weekend and evening work.
Interested students should submit a resume and cover letter via email to mdubois@marylandsymphony.org, or by mail to Megan DuBois, MSO Production Manager and Education Coordinator, 30 W. Washington St., Hagerstown, MD 21740-4804, or via fax at 301-797-2314. Please include your desired internship period ( i.e. summer 2013) and available work dates.
