GRAMMY AWARD-WINNING GUITARIST SHARON ISBIN BRINGS “MEDITERRANEAN
MAGIC” TO HAGERSTOWN AND FREDERICK DURING UPCOMING MARYLAND
SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA MASTERWORKS CONCERT
Classical guitarist Sharon Isbin joins
the Maryland Symphony Orchestra (MSO) on November 12 in Frederick,
Maryland and on November 13 and 14 in Hagerstown, Maryland, for “Mediterranean
Magic.”
The second concert of the 2004-2005 MasterWorks series, “Mediterranean
Magic,” features the return of Grammy Award-winning guitarist
Sharon Isbin to the MSO. Acclaimed for her extraordinary lyricism,
technique and versatility, Ms. Isbin has been hailed as the “pre-eminent
guitarist of our time.” Winner of the Toronto, Munich and Madrid
International Competitions, and named Guitar Player magazine’s
“Best Classical Guitarist,” she has given sold-out performances
in the world’s greatest halls, including New York’s Carnegie
and Avery Fisher Halls, Boston’s Symphony Hall, and Washington
D.C.’s Kennedy Center. A frequent guest on national radio programs,
including All Things Considered and A Prairie Home Companion, Ms.
Isbin has been profiled on television on the A&E Network and CBS’s
Sunday Morning. She has been featured in periodicals from People to
The New York Times to The Wall Street Journal, as well as appearing
on the cover of more than 25 magazines.
Ms. Isbin will perform Joaquin Rodrigo’s Fantasia Para Un Gentil
Hombre, Adagio by Tomaso Albinoni and Antonio Vivaldi’s Concerto
for Guitar in D Major at all three Maryland Symphony Orchestra concerts.
“Mediterranean Magic” also features Ancient Airs and Dances,
Suite No. 1 by Ottorino Respighi and Felix Mendelssohn’s Symphony
No. 4, known as “The Italian Symphony.”
In addition to the MasterWorks II performances at the Maryland Theatre
in Hagerstown, the MSO is pleased to bring this much-anticipated concert
to the Weinberg Center for the Arts in Frederick. The November 12
“Mediterranean Magic” performance begins at 8:00 p.m.
Ticket prices for the performance are $20.00, $25.00 and $30.00 for
adults, $10.00 for students, and may be obtained by calling the Weinberg
Center for the Arts at 301-228-2828 or by visiting the Weinberg Box
Office at 20 West Patrick Street, Frederick, Maryland. Box office
hours are Tuesday through Friday, 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and Saturday
from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Tickets are also available via the Weinberg
website at www.weinbergcenter.org.
A major media partner of the MSO, Maryland Public Television (MPT)
has selected this concert as their “MPT Night at the Weinberg.”
The Frederick News Post, continuing their strong commitment to the
Arts in Frederick County, is also partnering with the MSO to support
the November 12 concert.
The Frederick concert is made possible in part by a New Initiatives
Grant from the Maryland State Arts Council. Associate Sponsors for

Single ticket prices for MasterWorks performances are $18, $30, $35,
and $40, and a 50% discount is offered to full-time students and children
under 12. The MSO Box Office is open 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. weekdays
and 12 noon to 4:00 p.m. on concert Saturdays.
