Maryland Symphony Orchestra’s Principal Cellist Featured
as Soloist for November MasterWorks Concerts: Symphonic Revolutionaries
Hagerstown, MD—The Maryland Symphony Orchestra’s
principal cellist, Lukasz Szyrner, will be featured as a
soloist during the upcoming MasterWorks II Concerts, “Symphonic
Revolutionaries”on Saturday, November 14 at 8:00 p.m.
and Sunday, November 15 at 3:00 p.m. at the historic Maryland
Theatre in downtown Hagerstown.
Szyrner will perform Shostakovich’s Violoncello Concerto
No. 1 in E-flat Major, Op. 107. The MSO will also be
playing Beethoven’s Symphony No. 3 in E-flat major,
Op. 55 (Eroica) and Coriolan Overture, Op. 62. Program

A native of Poznan, the musical capital of Poland, Szyrner
has been with the MSO since 2000, serving as principal cellist
since 2004. He is also acting principal with the Lancaster
Symphony Orchestra. A recognized child prodigy, he
began his studies at the age of seven and began performing
with the Poznan Philharmonic when he was 10 and made his
solo debut with the orchestra at 14 performing the Saint-Saens
Cello Concerto. He was the youngest master’s
graduate of the Jan Paderewski Music Conservatory in Poznan
and has studied at the prestigious Hochschule Fur Musik in
Detmold, Germany as well as the Peabody Conservatory and
New England Conservatory of Music.
Tickets, starting at $22, may be purchased online or by
calling 301-797-4000. Student rush tickets (no reservations
accepted) are also available at the Maryland Theatre box
office 90 minutes before each performance for $5.00. Seat
selections will be at the discretion of box office personnel.
All ticket holders are welcome to attend Prelude which takes
place one hour before each concert. Music Director
Elizabeth Schulze shares information on featured composers
and works that will enhance concert-goers enjoyment and appreciation
of the concert. Guest artists also participate in Prelude.
