Violin Virtuoso Elena Urioste to Perform With
Maryland Symphony Orchestra
Hagerstown, MD—The Maryland Symphony Orchestra and
Music Director Elizabeth Schulze will kick off the 2009-2010
Masterworks Series with the brilliant up-and-coming violinist,
Elena Urioste, as guest artist. She will perform Samuel
Barber’s Concerto for Violin and Orchestra, Op.
14.
The Masterworks I concert, “A Violin Virtuoso,” will
take place Saturday, October 10 at 8:00 p.m. and Sunday,
October 11 at 3:00 p.m. at the historic Maryland Theatre
in downtown Hagerstown. The MSO will also perform Svoboda’s Overture
of the Season and Dvorak’s Symphony No.
6 in D.
Urisote, recently selected by Symphony magazine as
an emerging artist to watch, has been hailed by critics and
audiences alike for her rich tone, the nuanced lyricism of
her playing and her commanding stage presence. Since
making her debut with the Philadelphia Orchestra at age thirteen,
she has appeared as soloist with major orchestras throughout
the United States including the Cleveland Orchestra, Boston
Pops, National Symphony Orchestra, Atlanta, Detroit, Pittsburgh,
Baltimore, New Mexico and San Antonio Symphony Orchestras,
as well as Hungary’s Orchestra Dohnanyi Budafok. She
is a graduate of the esteemed Curtis Institute of Music where
she studied with Joseph Silverstein, Pamela Frank and Ida
Kavafian, and also completed graduate studies with Joel Smirnoff
at The Juilliard School. The outstanding violin being
used by Urioste is a Michelangelo Bergonzi, Cremona, circa
1750, on extended loan through the generous efforts of Society
for Strings, Inc., Meadowmount School of Music, from the
private collection of Dr. Charles E. King.
