The Maryland Symphony Orchestra and Washington County Board
of Education Present Middle/High School MasterWorks Concert on March
24, 2006
HAGERSTOWN, MD – Elizabeth Schulze
and the Maryland Symphony Orchestra will present a MasterWorks concert
for area Middle and High School students on Friday, March 24 at 10:00
am at the historic Maryalnd Theatre. 7th and 10th grade students from
Northern Middle, E. Russell Hicks Middle, Western Heights Middle,
and North Hagerstown High School will attend this special performance,
which was commissioned by the Washington County Board of Education.
MSO Music Director Elizabeth Schulze and members of the orchestra
will provide comments and demonstrations to the students to enhance
their concert experience. An abbreviated version of the March 25 &
26 “Audience Favorites” concert, the program includes
the Overture to A Midsummer’s Night Dream, Op. 21 by Felix Mendelssohn,
the Maestoso from Johannes Brahms’ Piano Concerto No. 1 in D
minor, Op. 15, featuring special guest Jonathan Biss, and the Allegro
con brio from Ludwig van Beethoven’s masterpiece, Symphony No.
5 in C minor, Op. 67.
Led by Music Director and Conductor Elizabeth Schulze, the Maryland
Symphony Orchestra, now in its 24th season, is the area’s premiere
professional orchestra, dedicated to providing musical performances
and programs that educate and entertain while enhancing the cultural
environment of Western Maryland and the surrounding region. |
