MUSIC OF MOZART, BEETHOVEN AND ROSSINI FEATURED DURING THE
MSO MASTERWORKS CONCERT, “SPRINGTIME IN EUROPE”
HAGERSTOWN, MD - - On April 2 and 3, 2005,
the Maryland Symphony Orchestra and Music Director Elizabeth Schulze
celebrate “Springtime in Europe” with three of Europe’s
greatest composers – Mozart, Beethoven, Rossini – and
the artistry of one of the musical world’s rising stars, Sandra
Wolf-Meei Cameron. The MasterWorks IV concert includes Rossini’s
Overture to Cinderella, Beethoven’s Symphony No. 7 in A Major,
and Miss Cameron’s performance of Mozart’s Violin Concerto
No. 5 in A Major.
Eighteen-year-old Sandra Wolf-Meei Cameron began her violin studies
in Germany at the age of eight. Upon her return to the United States,
she entered the Juilliard School’s Pre-College Division, where
she is now in her senior year. Ms. Cameron made her European debut
in November, 1998 and her American orchestral debut in July, 1999.
In August of 2000 she was chosen as the youngest winner of the Salzburg
Mozarteum’s outstanding student prize and received extraordinary
critical acclaim in concert at the Salzburg Festival. While in Salzburg,
she played for Russian conductor Valery Gergiev, who immediately engaged
her to play with him in 2001 at both the White Nights Festival in
St. Petersburg and at the Salzburg Festival.
Noted for her “laser-sharp precision” and for displaying
“as much passion and as formidable a technique as you’d
likely encounter in a dozen professional performances,” Miss
Cameron recently performed at Lincoln Center’s Alice Tully Hall
with the Park Avenue Chamber Symphony. Other season highlights include
engagements with the Springfield Symphony (OH), the Bowling Green
Western Symphony Orchestra (KY) and the Augusta Symphony (GA).
