Maryland Symphony Orchestra to Offer Lecture Series
Hagerstown, MD—The Maryland Symphony Orchestra is
offering a two-part music lecture series entitled “Let’s
Talk Music” on Monday, March 15 and Monday, April 19. Classes
will be held at the MSO office at 30 W. Washington Street
in Hagerstown, beginning at 5:30 p.m. The cost per
class is $5.00 which includes light refreshments. Space
is limited so reserve your spot today by calling 301-797-4000.
“Let’s Talk Music” will expand your knowledge
and enjoyment of classical music. This casual, yet
informative, look at the basic structure of classical music
will be led by MSO Board Member Brendan Fitzsimmons who holds
a master’s degree in Musicology from the University
of North Carolina.
The first lecture will focus on “Technology in Music” and
how the advances in musical instruments have changed the
orchestral landscape. In particular, attention will
be paid to how the evolution of the piano made possible the
changes in piano concertos from Mozart and Beethoven to Chopin,
Tchaikovsky and Rachmaninoff.
