The Maryland Symphony Orchestra invites you to look up at the stars and listen as we take you on a multimedia space travel adventure. This spectacular presentation of Gustav Holst’s most popular work, The Planets, is a full-sensory concert experience accompanied by high-definition video and celestial images taken by NASA. Striking pictures of Earth, Mars, Saturn and more will be projected on a giant screen above the orchestra. Watch in awe as the exploration of our solar system is brought to life in vivid form while the orchestra performs the musical themes within Holst’s The Planets.

This out-of-this-world concert will also feature Stars by American composer Mary Howe. Stars is describe by Howe as “...a miniature tone poem inspired by the gradually overwhelming effect of the dome of a starry night – its peace, beauty, and space.” Pluto by Margaret Brouwer was commissioned by the Roanoke Symphony in 1997 as an added movement to The Planets.

This will be a musical journey through the cosmos you certainly don't want to miss!

Arrive early for “Prelude,” an in-depth presentation about musical works to help make the most of your concert experience, starting one hour prior to each performance, free to all ticket holders.
