MARYLAND SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA ANNOUNCES SCHEDULE
FOR 30TH ANNIVERSARY SEASON;

Hagerstown, MD–The Maryland Symphony Orchestra and Music Director Elizabeth Schulze have announced the schedule for its 30th Anniversary Season.
The 30th Anniversary Season gets underway on Saturday, September 24 when a duo of Broadway stars, Julia Murney and Alli Mauzey, joins the MSO for an exciting evening of popular songs from Broadway musicals known as “Wicked Divas.” Both performers have starred on Broadway and on tour in the blockbuster musical “Wicked.”
The Masterworks Series begins on Saturday, October 23 and Sunday, October 24 and will feature violinist Nick Kendall performing Chris Brubeck’s Spontaneous Combustion. Composer Brubeck is the son of famed jazz pianist and composer, Dave Brubeck. Also on the program will be Beethoven’s Prometheus Overture and Stravinsky’s Firebird Suite.
An evening of Baroque music is on tap for Saturday, November 12 and Sunday, November 13. The program will feature Pachelbel’s Canon in D; Bach’s Suite No. 1; Corelli’s Concerto grosso op. 6, No. 11 in B-Flat Major; Pergolesi’s Sinfonia in F Major; Vivaldi’s Concerto for Violin, 2 Horns, 2 Oboes and Bassoon in F Major; and Handel’s Royal Fireworks Suite.
The MSO’s annual “Home for the Holidays,” the region’s favorite holiday musical tradition, will be held on Saturday, December 17 and Sunday, December 18. This joyful celebration will feature Christmas classics that audience members of all ages will enjoy. Guest artists will be announced at a later date.
The Masterworks Series continues on Saturday, February 11 and Sunday, February 12 when the MSO presents pianist Edward Newman performing Pierné’s Piano Concerto, op.12. Included in the program are Thomas’ Overture from Mignon; Chaminade’s Callirhoë Suite, op. 37; Massenet’s Overture from Phèdre; Bizet’s L’Arlesiènne: Suite No. 1 and Saint-Saëns’ Bacchanale from Samson et Dalila.
On Saturday, March 17 and Sunday, March 18, the MSO’s principal timpanist, Joseph McIntyre, will celebrate his 30th season with the orchestra by serving as a guest artist on Daugherty’s Raise the Roof. Also on the program will be Rimsky-Korsakov’s Russian Easter Overture, op. 36; Hovhaness’ Prayer of St. Gregory and Respighi’s Church Windows.
The second MSO Pops! Concert will be held on Saturday, April 7 and will feature NBC’s America’s Got Talent finalists, The Texas Tenors. This classically trained trio performs a blend of gospel, country, classical and Broadway music, all with a touch of country charm.
The final Masterworks Concerts of the season will be held on Saturday, April 21 and Sunday, April 22 when the MSO presents pianist Yuliya Gorenman performing Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 3. Also on the program will be Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 2.
All performances are held at the historic Maryland Theatre in downtown Hagerstown. The Masterworks Series is on Saturday evenings at 8:00 p.m. and Sunday afternoons at 3:00 p.m. The Pops Concerts begin at 8:00 p.m. on Saturday evenings only and the “Home for the Holidays” concerts begin at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday and 3:00 p.m. on Sunday.
Music Director Elizabeth Schulze will provide insights into the music, musicians and composers during “Prelude” which is held one hour prior to every Masterworks performance. Guest artists also participate. The half-hour talk and question and answer session is free to all ticket holders.

The office is closed during the summer on Fridays.
