Holiday Concert
Featured Artist
Tami Dahbura
Tami is thrilled to be returning
to her home town for her first appearance with the Maryland
Symphony Orchestra. Tami
has enjoyed a career in the arts for almost three decades. She
has performed all over the world, but one of the first stages
she performed on was this one right here at the Maryland Theatre.
Tami’s career in musical theatre has taken her everywhere
from the Off-Broadway stages of New York (Pajama Game, Forgotten
Broadway) to wonderful theatre while living in Hawaii
(Chicago,
A Little Night Music, Falsettos, Ruthless). Some
of Tami’s San Francisco Bay Area credits include Tune
the Grand Up, The World Goes ‘Round, for
which she received a Drama Logue Award, the World Premiere
of Heart
Land, and the role of Charlotte in Flora, the
Red Menace at San Francisco’s popular 42nd Street
Moon. In 1986, Tami was in the National/International
tour of A Chorus Line, which toured the West Coast and
Japan with several original cast members, including Donna McKechnie.
Tami has also performed internationally in her “one-woman
show”, Lost In the Stars, which she took all the
way from a sold-out run at the Empire Plush Room in San Francisco
to the International Arts Festival in San Salvador, El Salvador.
Tami worked for many years at the nationally acclaimed American
Musical Theatre of San Jose. Some of her favorite roles
at that theatre were Electra in Gypsy, Eve/Mamma Noah
in Children of Eden, Joanie in The Full Monty ,
and the American Premiere of The 3hree Musketeers in
which she also appears on the original cast recording.
Other favorite roles throughout her career in musical theatre
are: Patsy in the West Coast's premiere production of Bingo
- The Musical, and The Witch in Stephen Sondheim's Into
the Woods, for which she was nominated for a Best Actress
by the Bay Area Theatre Critics Circle.
Besides Tami’s career in musical theatre, she has enjoyed
a wonderful career as a soloist with symphony orchestras, the
first of which was the annual Christmas Concert of the Hawaii
Symphony Orchestra. Since then Tami has had a long collaboration
with symphonies in Northern California. Under the baton of
Maestro Michael Morgan, she has been the featured soloist in An
Evening of Gershwin and Sondheim, and Carousel In Concert with
the Sacramento Philharmonic, From Opera to Broadway with
Festival Opera, and Follies The Concert, and Showboat
In Concert with the Oakland East Bay Symphony.
Tami holds a B.A. from Mount
Holyoke College and currently lives in the San Francisco
Bay Area where she is working on the release of her first
CD, “Acoustic Broadway”.
Tami dedicates this concert to her beloved family, especially
her parents; and to the memory of her grandmother, Velda Grimes – a
native and life-long resident of Hagerstown.
