Owen
First Violins - Associate Concertmaster
Joanna
Owen joined the Maryland Symphony as Associate Concertmaster in
2003. A native of Poland, she first came to the United States to
pursue her musical studies at Interlochen. She has since gone on
to earn Masters Degrees from the Eastman School of Music and the
San Francisco Conservatory, and in 2001 and completed her doctorate
at Eastman. Her major teachers include Zvi Zeitlin, Camilla Wicks
and Charles Castleman.
Dr. Owen is a recipient of Dorothy Sterling
Award for an Outstanding Violinist, Lorenz Scholar Award as well
as travel grants to study in Italy and Austria. She has performed
with the Rochester Philharmonic, Syracuse Symphony, the New World
Symphony, The National Philharmonic, and many others. She divides
her time between Rochester and the Washington DC area where she
is an active freelance performer and educator.
