Requirements
Concertmaster – (two rounds)– Candidates must prepare orchestral and solo excerpts from the repertoire list (see link below) as well as the first movements from one of the following concertos: Beethoven, Brahms, Mendelssohn, Sibelius, or Tchaikovsky. In Round 2 there will also be a round of ensemble playing with other MSO members.

All Other Positions – Candidates must prepare excerpts from the repertoire list (see link below), as well as prepare a concerto of their choice.

Concerto: you will be asked to play a portion of your concerto first. Please bring extra copies of your concerto for the audition committee.
Excerpts: After hearing a portion of your concerto, the committee will tell you which of the required excerpts to play.

Candidates must not be subject to any visa or immigration status that would prevent lawful employment at the time of the audition. You will need to fill in a Form I-9 (Employment Eligibility Verification) before a contract can be offered.

Repertoire: We are in the process of updating repertoire information. Please check back for updated links if your instrument is not listed at this time.

Anonymity: In order to protect your anonymity, please do not speak once you have entered the audition room. An audition proctor will accompany you into the room; if you have any questions or concerns during the audition, signal the proctor and ask about your concerns quietly. Your questions will be relayed to the audition committee, which will be seated behind a screen.

Procedure
Qualified candidates should send one-page resume and $50.00 refundable deposit (payable to Maryland Symphony Orchestra) by Friday April 25, 2008 via mail to

**Invitations and audition packets for Concertmaster will be issued on April 28 to selected highly-qualified candidates.

**Audition packets for other open positions will be mailed one month prior to the auditions stating your time slot and other important information.

The audition fee will be refunded when the audition is taken as scheduled, or if the candidate cancels before 2 business days prior the scheduled audition. No one will be scheduled for an audition without a deposit.

Notification: You will receive a phone call the day of the audition informing you of the Committee’s decision as well as a formal letter in the mail within one week.

Expenses: The Maryland Symphony Orchestra does not reimburse travel expenses associated with auditions.

From Pennsylvania:
Follow Interstate 81 South. Take Exit 6A to Route 40 East and proceed through the downtown area of Hagerstown passing through the city square and onto Dual Highway. Turn left onto Mount Aetna Road next to Pizza Hut. Turn left at the second traffic light onto Robinwood Drive. Turn left at the second traffic light onto campus. For Kepler Theatre, turn first left on Scholar Drive. The Theatre will be ahead on right, on a hill.

From West Virginia:
Follow Interstate 81 North. Take Exit 4 to Interstate 70 East. Take Exit 32B to Hagerstown turning right at the first traffic light onto Edgewood Drive. Proceed until you come to the third traffic light and turn left onto campus. For Kepler Theatre, turn first left on Scholar Drive. The Theatre will be ahead on right, on a hill.

From Frederick, Maryland and points East:
Follow Interstate 70 West. Take Exit 32B to Hagerstown turning right at the first traffic light onto Edgewood Drive. Proceed until you come to the third traffic light and turn left onto campus. For Kepler Theatre, turn first left on Scholar Drive. The Theatre will be ahead on right, on a hill.

From Clear Spring, Maryland and points West:
Follow Interstate 70 East. Take Exit 32B to Hagerstown turning right at the first traffic light onto Edgewood Drive. Proceed until you come to the third traffic light and turn left onto campus. For Kepler Theatre, turn first left on Scholar Drive. The Theatre will be ahead on right, on a hill.

Parking: There is a parking lot with ample parking at the audition site.
